#### ^blurb
In:: [[education]], [[productivity]], and daily life,
note writing generally refers to any [[writing]] that is in service of completing the task at hand whether that be a class assignment or publication.
In:: [[knowledge management]],
note writing is the systematic act of storing information for future use. While the notes can be used in the process of completing tasks, they are expected to accumulate and contribute to many tasks over time.
The medium of the storage isn't entirely irrelevant, but the methodology is much more influential. The type of notes you can write can roughly be divided
into:: [[referential notes]], [[conceptual notes]], and [[organizational notes]].
^[This definition is my own and is expanded upon in [[Note taking is a spectrum from purely reproductive to purely productive]]]
This does not cover all type of [[writing]], but aims to cover the bulk of writing that we take part in for our own benefit, or writing that is not primarily intended for an audience.
This note is a synthesis of note writing techniques used in systems like [[Zettelkasten]], [[evergreen notes]], and the general style of note writing enabled by [[knowledge management]] tools such as [[Obsidian (software)|Obsidian]], [[Roam Research (software)|Roam Research]], and others.
